i started studying music at the age of 12, i remember feeling like i was a late bloomer since a lot of people going to private lessons seemed to have been doing it since age 5 or 6. i wasn't a very good student though, i remember one time i was practicing at my teacher's house and her husband came out and told me to practice my lessons and stop playing that other music, i was playing some blues chords. my lessons were classical music. i was in a band called soundpost and we did a lot of covers of what was out then, mainly the jackson five. i guess i did all right with my studies of music, but i got my real education from playing in bands growing up in new york.we did dances, block parties, weddings, etc.
eventually , i left new york to go to fisk university to formally study music. although it was only to be a year i could afford to go fisk, it was one of the best years of my life. music was everywhere, i was the piano player for the school jazz band and we played all over nashville.we traveled to different colleges and even played at florida state university. i would go to chicago for three years, before eventually settling in los angeles for ten years.
take a line from a jimmy webb song about leaving la and you'll find me in there somewhere, i went north to the san francisco bay area.it was then that i really started to write my own music.i started playing locally and found out that people really like the music i was writing. i got a lot of gigs at macys and started to do office parties, fashion shows, etc.people would come up to me after the shows were over and ask me if i had any cd's out. that happened time and time again. so it was only natural that i do a cd. and the "new groove" was born.
i now work out of my studio at home writing music for my cd's and working to get my music placed movies and tv.
