Details:
Let's go back in Rusty Eye history to 1998. Rusty Eye had already achieved cult status in Mexico City after their multiple demo DIY tape releases and their intense live performances. But there was a problem: the music was in English and it was heavy. The Mexican Music Industry refused to take Rusty Eye because they didn't agree to go Pop. The band wasn't happy with this situation and decided to break up.
Mr. Rust (bassist/singer and founder) decided to put the band back together to release a CD for the first time, since the early recordings lacked studio quality for DIY reasons. But his band mates at the time were not interested in being involved with a band that was banned from the industry.
In 1999 Mr. Rust teamed up with former guitarist Dr. Eye and the extremely talented pianist Leo Haze (who agreed to play drums for the recording). During rehearsals for the recording the whole project changed from being a farewell to a debut album and soon the band was back on the stage.
Still, the recording was almost impossible to make. Even though the band was paying for recording time, Professional studios rejected the band because they were too heavy and Independent Metal studios rejected the band because it wasn't metal enough.
Josue Gonzales, a young engineer best know for his work with the Mexican band Unusual Sickness decided to record Rusty Eye for 500 dollars.
The band was barely able to finish the recording because of budget and there was no money left to press the album. Luckily, piracy took over and the recording became a huge underground bootleg success.
Rust n' Roll was re-pressed and released for the first time in the USA in 2001.
