Atlanta has had its share of musical talent and Sam's Crossing is destined to join that list
Sam's Crossing began as an acoustic duo with vocalist Jodi Thompson and guitarist/songwriter Denis Rand. Well received at local venues, they began work on a CD to promote the duo. One thing led to another and the project became a full electric band. Now with the release of its CD in 2004, All Paths Lead, they are making a name for themselves. In May 2004 they won a songwriting competition
sponsored by local radio station Z93. Two of the songs from the CD have placed on Broadjam.com's top 10 lists. "Eddie Are You All Right?" was #6 on the Male/Female Vocal Production Top 10. "Could I Trust You?" placed #3 on the Georgia/Regional and #6 on the Jazz category Top 10. In mid August Sam's Crossing was Band of the Day on Comcast Channel 45. The results from these events have been positive. The website is getting hits, CD sales are good and shows are booked.
Denis Rand is Sam's Crossing's lead guitarist and primary songwriter. He has been playing and writing since he was eight, attended LA's Guitar Institute where he graduated in the top ten percent of his class, then moved to Atlanta where he played in rock, reggae and other bands that toured the Southeastern U.S. He's also done session work for Bell South, Georgia-Pacific, and Turner Classic Movies as well as local R&B, hip/hop, country and African artists.
Jodi Thompson, Sam's Crossing's lead vocalist, has strong gospel roots and has been singing in churches throughout the South since childhood. Her warm and sultry voice is captivating. Jodi is joined by her sister Traci Thompson on backing vocals. The two have been singing and harmonizing together since they were young teenagers. Jeff Lauterbach is on bass and Kevin Green is the drummer. Both have been playing all their lives in a variety of studio
and touring projects throughout the U.S. and now combine their talents with skill and conviction.
Sam's Crossing's mission is to get their music into the hands and minds of as many people as possible, knowing that once it's heard it will take root. They are the missing element in today's music scene and will show the world just what it's been missing.
