Description:

(ID 552335)
Her take on life and love can be summed up in some of her lyrics; "When it comes down to it, we all gotta die, but at least a bird kinda tastes good fried" and "life's a bitch, but it's also a gas"; the songs move from mood to mood like a freight train.

Details:
The Dam Farm is a real place in Athens County, Ohio, a community of interestingly aligned people and animals, sort-of like the Island of Misfit Toys.

Named for the beaver dams that flooded most of the bottom lands, it was a great favorite with area hill jacks for sight-seeing in the early Â90's.

"See in our case we looked funny, and we lived poor - BUT you could see we weren't all related. Very odd," - Sarah.

Two time Kerrville New Folk Finalist Sarah is crafting new works for her new CD - due out in the spring of 2003.

Her music reflects her environment; being down-to-earth, telling stories, and conveying humor and pathos equally.

The Athens Messenger Insider Magazine had this to say: "If you could record Athens County in a recording studio, it would sound pretty close to Sarah Guthrie and the Athens County Ruffians' "Songs From the Dam Farm." No, she isn't the daughter of Arlo or Woody, but she's got their spirit. This album is best listened to with a straw between the teeth, a pair of overalls with the knees worn out, and a jug of Athens' finest balanced on one hip."

In performance she also covers many songs crafted by other regional musicians in an effort to build a community of regional music and a following for other local artists.

Sarah's CD, Songs From the Dam Farm, is a collaborative effort by Sarah with a number of local singers and musicians.

The variety of styles, subjects and voices give the CD the flavor of a compilation without sacrificing continuity. "The songs break cliches, are good for a chuckle and even a little gentle wisdom. These aren't lyrics that pass you by on their way to the next song." - Insider Magazine

"The CD was made to highlight my songwriting, and share a little of my insights into stuff. Many of my great friends sang and played on it - for virtually nothing but the pleasure it gave us all (well, I did hint at future fame, or rather, notoriety). Someday I would love to be in a position to reward them adequately for their efforts, so I'm kinda tryin' to spread the word on the CD so we can sell some and fix our trucks. Bernie Nau of The House Band did the mastering, and listening to the CD made him smile. Go ahead and ask him. I hope it does you too." - Sarah

Sarah's been writing songs like crazy - and she's looking for folks to cover her originals, soooo, if you're looking for great songs, look no further. You can contact her at damfarmgirl@yahoo.com.
