As their very name suggests, Screwtape Lewis is the essence of CONTRADICTION. Poets with punk rock energy, Art Rockers who actually rock. A band that both WORSHIPS at and DEFILES the altar of rock and roll. Whose sound is best described as a COLLISION between 80's NEW WAVE and ANXIOUS MODERN ROCK(think DEVO meets the SEX PISTOLS). Delivered with manic live energy and a sprinkling of humor. What makes this Canadian trio so different? They may just be THE BEST BAND YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF.

Frontman Randl Lewis Bailer grew up listening to KISS and Queen as a means of escaping his mundane existence in rural Alberta. The singer/ guitarist went on to sign with an indie label, touring North America and Eastern Europe. It was during this time that Bailer hired drummer Boris T Blackwood for a US tour. Following the label's collapse, the pair formed Screwtape Lewis. With a name inspired by the controversial novel The Screwtape Letters, they enlisted the talents of bassist Wax Davis and soon began playing shows. Within a year Screwtape Lewis released their debut CD Art Rock Show to local critical acclaim.

"For us, art-rock is about creating an entire, thematic package; the sound, look, stage design, and lyrics. Describing our approach as user friendly art rock refers to the two levels that an audience can experience us" explains Bailer. "On one level we're about full on rock and roll energy. But on a deeper level we present some challenging, thought provoking ideas lyrically and visually, which is more akin to conceptual art. We're fully aware that rock music can be both spiritually transcendent and primitively moronic and I think we present both."

With a score of memorable shows under their belt,
the band has just released their second CD, Better Stronger Faster. A new wave inspired collection of hooky songs that are both cinematic and energentic.

With a new CD and stage show consisting of tv screens showing Bailer produced art films, Screwtape Lewis continues to transcend the predictable. Proving that contradiction can be the fuel to an engaging fire.
