Details:
Normally, you'd probably do your best to ignore any unusual noises coming from the toolshed - but this particular sound is more than worth checking out. Led by jazz-groove guitarist/songwriter Stephen Franke, this hot new band has been making waves at festivals and clubs across North America since its formation in October 2002. Most recently they played to sold-out jazz festival, opening for Little Feat and DJ Jazzy Jeff. The spring of 2004 brings about the release of their debut album 'Songs for a Platinum Blonde Diner Waitress', on Blue Heron Records.

Powered by the distinctive sound of Franke's 1949 Gibson L4 archtop guitar amplified through a Leslie organ speaker, Noises from the Toolshed play a unique blend of gypsy jazz and groove with strong Latin and Cuban influences. There are shades of Django Rheinhardt, Medeski Martin and Wood, Bruce Hornsby, Tom Waits and many others - all filtered through an innovative musical sensibility, scorching technique and a driving energy that's impossible to resist.

Stephen Franke, a former student of prominent jazz musicians Hugh Fraser and Pat Coleman, spent his formative guitar-playing years working with members of Luther Wright and the Wrongs, Lorrina Belluz and Kinnie Starr. Before pursuing a solo career he toured across the USA and Canada with Gnu and the Ragtime Millionaires and A Particular Wave, opening for Blue Rodeo and the Jazz Mandolin Project among many others.

In Noises from the Toolshed he is joined by Dan Mock (bass), Brent Norman (drums) and Chris Vansickle (keyboards). Long time friends, with a chemistry that is the result of years of fine-tuning and a fresh, original sound guaranteed to move and groove you... Stephen Franke and Noises from the Toolshed are the most electrifying touring act in the club scene today.
