Details:
"Listening to her is like pulling up a pair of very, very soft faded jeans over bare skin".
--Les Reynolds, https://www.tradebit.com

"Miller at her best hauntingly channels Tracy Chapman".
--David C. Eldridge, Illinois Entertainer

Singer/songwriter Shelley Miller moved to Chicago in 1998 to escape the high rents of her native Silicon Valley. Somewhere along the way, she picked up a thrift-shop guitar, taught herself a few chords, and decided to change the world.

Six years later, Shelley performs regularly in Chicago and throughout the Midwest. Her song "Every Day Shine" (co-written with Karen Stockwell) won the Winter 2003 A Call To Arts Song and Music Contest, and two of her songs were semi-finalists in the 2001 Dallas Songwriters' Association Songwriting Contest. Her music has been featured on SBS Records' Sampler #3 and on Hope: Next 2 Exits, a 9/11 benefit CD produced by Bannon Productions. She also performs with the all-female improvisational collective She Laughs and with the poetry/music duo Moon Lodge.

Shelley is an active member of Indiegrrl, SongsAlive!, GoGirls and Just Plain Folks. She teaches guitar at the Old Town School of Folk Music. When not playing music, Shelley can often be found careening her bicycle through the streets of Chicago...singing.

THE CD:

"Tear Me Down," the debut CD from Chicagoan Shelley Miller, was released in June of 2002. Exquisitely produced by Tommi Zender (Trinkets of Joy, Ruben Waters Loves You), who also arranged, engineered and performed on eight of the disc's eleven tracks, "Tear Me Down" blurs the lines between contemporary folk, pop and indie rock.

Other guest artists include Liz Conant (Aluminum Group), Jeff Oliver and Chicago rock trio 1/2 Mad Poet.

"Through all 11 original songs on Shelley Miller's new CD, it's her expressive voice that really shines. That's a good thing, a very good thing."
--Les Reynolds, https://www.tradebit.com

"...at times reminiscent of Dar Williams or Ani DiFranco...She plays and sings gently but has a ferocious side, one interested in exploring extremes of human emotion..."
--Dave Heaton, https://www.tradebit.com

WHAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE SAYING:

At times she sounds like an innocent child singing softly to herself...only to go into her signature low-toned growls of heartache and deep self-introspection. Her songs are stripped down and acoustic, which allows nothing to get in the way of her emotive storytelling.
-- Fabian Guerra, Quest Management; Manager/ Talent Buyer, Big Horse Lounge, Chicago, IL

I am totally blown away. She has an incredibly expressive voice, and the music shows tremendous range and diversity...'Follow' would not sound out of place on an Ani release circa Out Of Range or Not A Pretty Girl.
--Tim Baldwin, Missing Lynx Productions, Buffalo, NY

"Watch out, this scabby knee girl is going to get ya! More rhythm than a steam locomotive, lyrics hot enough to melt rock, and a voice that squeezes out the emotions like an orange juice maker set on "every last drop."
--Charlie McShane, host
