A blend of diverse influences lend Silent Men its' unique, indie pop flavor. Herwin Abel and Loren West comprise the songwriting team and core of the band. Herwin Abel, lead vocalist, bassist and guitarist, is originally from the island of Haiti. He has a powerful tenor voice and a gift for writing a melodic hook. Loren West, lead guitar and vocals, is originally from the Upper West Side of Manhattan. His clean, understated guitar playing gives the band its signature sound and his lyrics give the songs their flavor of romantic desolation. Tom Currier, keyboards and bass, is from the Upper East Side of NYC and Johnny Rose, drummer extraordinaire, was born on the tougher side of Brooklyn. Although the band is not currently performing, Loren and Herwin are still writing and recording together and recently released a CD of new material, "Silent Men" as well as retrospective called "Speaking Out Loud" which chronicles all of the band's studio recordings and some live performances at the legendary club CBGBs.
