People believe that Miami has no local music scene, and that its contribution to the world of music lies within the boundaries of its dance clubs in South Beach. However, beyond the neon lights of Lincoln Road and the glow sticks of club kids, and deep within the suburbs, were four young men with the desire to make great rock music. Their paths would soon cross by a chance meeting that would be the catalyst to create what would later become Skylab.

In 2000, Nelson Morales attended A Perfect Circle concert where he met Alex Angel, a high school acquaintance. In their conversation, they found a common ground in the direction and energy they wanted to take in creating their own music; then the concert ended. Later that year Nelson ran into Alex at a bar, and the conversation picked up right where it left off. It was fate.

They began to form a group by distributing flyers to local music stores seeking a guitarist and vocalist. Charlie Hill answered the call for guitarist, and after several jam sessions at a studio, decided to join Alex and Nelson. The three musicians then auditioned several singers for two months, and their search ended when Dave Young responded to the same ad as Charlie in February 2003.

With all the elements in place, Skylab was ready to create their own brand of moving alternative rock. They began touring allover South Florida, winning multiple battle of the bands and garnering local support.
