8 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Folk Rock, POP: Folky Pop
Details:
Sofia's L.A. based band started playing out in 2003. Performances packed Highland Grounds and the Joint, as well as the west-side's Temple Bar. 2003 also included a trip to NYC (including performances at Piano's and Lincoln Center) to support the documentary - As Daylight Breaks. After the trip to NYC, health and life stopped the gigging. The Temple Bar (Santa Monica) was gracious enough to invite Sofia back for a few shorter shows in Spring/Summer 2004 which were more intimate than her full band gigs of the year prior. Although the gigs are again on hold until 2005 (she's a new momma), there are more songs in the works that are growing themselves thanks to Sofia's cousin Ron's piano that recently found a home in her studio.
Besides L.A. gig-goers and online CD buyers, special thanks to the independent film folk: "Mama" introduces and "Fly Higher" is in the final musical montage in As Daylight Breaks, a poignant documentary about Canavan disease premiering at Lincoln Center. Besides Sofia, the soundtrack for As Daylight Breaks includes Yo La Tengo, Interpol, Brendan Benson, the Walkmen, Longwave, Pas/Cal, Lume, Jason Blum, Erika Simonian, and Ben Lee (www.asdaylightbreaks.com). Sofia's songs are also in Dog Me Potluck by Triple Sticks Productions (www.triplestickspro.com).
About the CD - the last few songs were recorded live in Grandma's Attic (Echo Park studio) - the takes took themselves. The first few tracks have strings that really brought out Insides Out and I Wait (special thanks to Christof Bull on accordion and Sean on production). And, Fly Higher is there if you need it.
Sofia released a limited demo CD in 2001 that is sometimes available on Amazon's used/collectible tab.
More songs will be released in 2005 (with some on-line prior to 2005 at www.sunseri.com).
Thanks to CDBaby for the amazing and understated connection between artists and music lovers.
All songs are also available on iTunes.
