Reminiscent of AC/DC, Neil Young, and the almighty Man in Black, Sons of Daughters manages to steep the appeal of timeless music in the boiling desire of youth to brew a concoction for those seeking substance in modern music.
The Sons had been cutting their musical teeth touring North America for months on end in a rock band called DGB since 1998. Spending several years living in front of strangers and sleeping in a van can make a person grow up very quickly, and eventually the boys had outgrown their own music.
Enter Sons of Daughters, circa 2003. Their consciences free of expectation or speculation, Todd Gesshe (vocals, guitar), Jeff Thompson (bass, vocals), and Craig Florence (drums) allied with Tyler Toews (guitar, vocals) to deliver a brand of rock music more engaging and potent than ever. The core of what made DGB musically appealing is there: soaring crescendos, subtle harmonies, engaging minor and major shifts, rock, and that sweet-but-chilling vocal croon. What is new to the mix is a measure of maturity. The inevitable backlash of single-minded distortion and 190 BPM junkies came and went as the walls of gained-out guitar were traded in for dynamic, mature guitar approaches and a whole new world of charming beats. Thompson and Florence weave intricate and gut-punching rhythms on which the guitars slash, burn, twang, and dance. Sewn up in thought-inducing arrangements and melodies, the songs stomp and tiptoe their way through you, with the power to both hurt and heal.
After recording their debut EP Sons of Daughters have toured Western Canada, left a mark on Canadian campus radio charts, and managed to peak the interest of the larger music industry. The band has sold nearly 1000 records, and been invited to showcase at NXNE in June... all just a brief two months after the release of the album.

Song Commentaries by Todd Gesshe
Scripts & Stories
From the first chord struck Scripts and Stories embodies everything that Rock and Roll was, is, or ever should be to me. Powerful and prophetic, this song puts your eye to the keyholes of our culture and makes you take a good long look.
Drop Me In The Well
Alcohol and small town life are woven together in this song that stomps around your brain in a light-hearted way. In an ode to our local hotel, the band pulls you through the tavern doors, sits you down, buys you a drink, and leaves you merrily swaying.
Anne-Marie
A soft-spoken tale of figurative and literal shipwreck. Delicate and tremulous guitars dance atop hypnotic rhythms in this story of loss and yearning.
Hotter Than Heaven
This song is an abstract exploration of a troubled and betrayed soul. While the lyrics remain inconclusive and ambiguous, I like to think that the guitars tell all.
Three Sheets
The thoughts of a road-weary wanderer taking solace from his cynical reality upon return to his hometown watering hole.
Tonight We Pray For Rain
Like drinking the dust off the fields. Dry times on the prairies, as the town slows itself down, the parched residents breath hot air through cracked lips and look to the heavens for relief. A single fingerpicked acoustic guitar urges this song to its climactic and percussive conclusion.
