âDoyoâ are traditional Japanese Childrenâs Songs that appeal to all age groups. It is believed in Japan that they represent the heart and soul of the Japanese people.
Greg Irwin, an American singer-songwriter, has translated and written English lyrics for over 100 of these classic Japanese songs. This is the original recording of Gregâs English translations of eleven of Japanâs most beloved and popular songs along with three original songs.

Greg Irwin received the first ever Doyo Culture Prize in Japan, along with the Popular Music Doyo Grande Prix. In the United States, he was a winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. He first performed these traditional Japanese songs at Lincoln Center in New York City and has performed âDoyoâ in concerts all over Japan. The songs on this CD have been featured on several NHK Television and Radio Programs in Japan.

All Japanese are familiar with the songs today, and most people have a great affection for them. They are considered to be an important element of Japanese culture.
