Performing twice at Jazz In Marciac in southern France is one of the career highlights for Jimmer Bolden, a powerful, passionate vocalist. The most recent highlight is completion of his brand new recording âIâm Glad I Thought About Youâ, a collection of diverse arrangements of marvelous standards, one song âen Españolâ, and an anthem from a Tony-winning Broadway show.

Jimmer began his career in the nightclubs of Washington, D.C. on a one-year trio stint with Walt Namath, the talented guitarist formerly of the Buddy Rich Big Band. A chance meeting and jam session with Wynton Marsalis in Marciac motivated Jimmer to both explore traditional jazz further and to study classical vocal technique. Marsalis has continued to be a mentor and source of great inspiration for him.

Jimmer performed at sold out shows at the Blues Alley, One Step Down and the Willard Hotel Ballroom in DC, and played SRO shows at the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen. He performed regularly at jazz venues in DC, Aspen, San Diego, and in Los Angeles where he is currently based. He has made multiple appearances at Jazz Aspen Snowmass, and performed at the 1st annual Sonoma Jazz Plus in May 2005. According to festival producer and Jazz Aspen Snowmass founder James Horowitz, âJimmer has a big voice...a honey voice, sweet, but big. He has tremendous range...he's the real McCoy.â

Jimmer had the good fortune to perform with Monty Alexander, who says, âJimmer Bolden can be included in that very exclusive group of vocalists who sing with wonderful resonance and articulation in the tradition of our most revered minstrels â Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra â and yet he sings and responds to the music of the moment, in an exciting and spontaneous way. Nat Cole, Dianne Reeves, Mark Murphy, Tierney Sutton and Frank Sinatra are just a few of Jimmerâs favorite vocalists, and his all-time fave is the late great Shirley Horn, with whom he took his very first vocal workshop.

Jimmer has expanded his pursuits to the theater world, and has appeared in âPippinâ and âSome Like It Hotâ, and in Leonard Bernsteinâs âCandideâ with the Lyric Opera San Diego. Jimmer has since played the role of Booker T. Washington in two outstanding Los Angeles area productions of âRagtime, The Musical", and was most recently the voice of âAudrey IIâ, that mean green man-eatinâ plant from outer space in a fabulous staging of âLittle Shop Of Horrorsâ.
