Lukas was born in Prague, Czech Republic and moved to the United States when he was only three years old. His father was a professional jazz musician in Europe so when relocating to the U.S., he started Lukas out on piano at the age of six. Lukas later switched to bass went on to play the Montreux and the North Sea jazz festivals while still in high-school. During this time he received many outstanding musicianship awards from the IAJE jazz festival in America and the World of Music festival in Los Angeles, Ca. At the end of high school, Lukas received a full tuition scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, Ma. and also became a faculty member at the Stanford Jazz Workshop.

From his studies at Berklee and his teaching experience at Stanford, he has had the pleasure of working and learning form great jazz artists such as Joe Henderson, Ray Brown, Marcus Belgrave, Steve Coleman, Gregory Hutchinson and Oscar Stagnaro to name a few. In 1998, Lukas traveled to Japan on an ambassador tour and performed at various venues including the world famous Star Eyes in Nagoya.

During college, Lukas also the had the opportunity to play with world-renouned classical and new age clarinetist, Richard Stoltzman. This included a series of concerts including one performed at the Hollywood Bowl with his son, Peter Stoltzman, a tremendous pianist in his own right, not to mention Alex Acuna(Weather Report) on drums.

One of Lukasâ recent engagements has been with a famous West Coast based swing band called Steve Lucky and the Rhumba Bums. With this band, he has had the opportunity to play at the 2003 Montreux jazz festival as well as the Meridien Jazz Club in Paris in 2005. In 2006, he was invited back to Japan by a famous marimba player, Mika Yoshida to play a series of concerts in southern Japan. On this tour, Lukas had the opportunity to team up with the great classical percussionist, Bill Cahn(Nexus) as well as with the great Richard Stoltzman and his son, Peter once more.

In 2007 Lukas is become a part time member of the Peter Stoltzman Trio which has featured the great Bob Moses on drums. In July, he also played a concert with his long time friend, Yosvanny Terry (Avishai Cohen, Bill Douglas, Steve Coleman) and the wonderful Ndugu Chancelor(Weather Report, Michael Jackson) on drums. Along with his first jazz recording as a leader, Peace Prayer, which features Jaz Sawyer (Irvin Mayfield, Abbey Lincoln) on drums, he recorded bass on famous jazz trombonist, Grachan Moncur III's record entitled, Inner Cry Blues. The album was released in May.



He has released four ambient syth electro pop albums entitled, Spaces Open Wide,Time Standing Still, Dreaming Life, and his latest, I Wake Up In A Dream.


In 2008 , Lukas started performing with his brother's band, Secondhand Serenade. Along with playing shows at clubs and theatres, he had also gotten a chance to play on the major late night tv show, Conan O'Brien, twice, as well as the CBS Early Show and Jimmy Kimmel.
Secondhand Serenade has toured with bands such as Automatic Loveletter, Making April, My American Heart, White Tie Affair, and Yellowcard.
Now in 2009, Lukas is scheduled to start touring internationally with Secondhand Serenade.
