Good Ol' Fashion Blue Collar Sound

"Good Ol' Fashion Blue Collar Sound" is not only part of the lyrics of Steelbeam's popular song "Boilermaker Blues", it's an apt description of what these guys play. More than the sum of the country, rock, gospel and pop parts they forge their sound from, Steelbeam is releasing their debut album through their independent label Right On! Records.

Steelbeam was formed when South Austin Gospel Choir members PJ Liles and Eric Leikam got together to write songs and perform them at open mics around Austin. Several incarnations later the duo found drummer Steve Gavigan and guitarist Kyle Judd to round out the group. They are frequently joined by guest musician friends when they play live, including Shelly Knight, Adam Garner, Jackson, Kevin Hollingsworth and others.

Steelbeam has been playing around Austin as a weekly fixture at the renowned Taco X-press as well as venues such as Antone's, Hill's Café, Posse East, Trophy's, and around the region, most notably opening for Cross Canadian Ragweed at Belton, TX Central Texas State Fair. We've also played special events like Majic 95.5's Pet-a-Palooza, corporate functions, and many private parties. Steelbeam has also garnered airplay on KVET, KUT, KKMJ and the syndicated Humble Time Radio. The buzz keeps building. Steelbeam's email list is growing and approaching the 500 mark.

Steelbeam is becoming well known for not only its music but for its heart. At all of our shows we collect non-perishable foods and monetary donations for our Poet's Pantry and Heart & Sole, which help feed and put shoes on the homeless. In the last year Steelbeam has helped raise nearly $5,000 for House The Homeless and Universal Living Wage organizations here in Austin while collecting hundreds of pounds of food for AIDS Services Of Austin and Casa Marinella; benefiting homeless families. Our lead singer PJ Liles was honored with a National Leadership Award for his efforts to help the homeless
