Details:
Missouri Mule Records is proud to announce the release of Makin' a Living, Not a Killing (MM 0003), the latest effort from Supe duJour. Upon his 1990 arrival in Nashville, Tennessee from his native home in the Show-Me state, the affable Supe began to assemble a band of Nashville cats to play his off-beat, left of center, repertoire.
Though a founding, as well as current, member of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, the Artist Formerly Known as Michael Granda steps into the spotlight with a 13 song exploration of the high evergy influence a St. Louis upbringing had on his music. "I like all kinds of music, just as long as it is uptempo, spirited, and light hearted", says Supe, of his wild-eyed approach. "If you want to hear slow songs about heart break and sorrow, go listen to someone else."
With a stellar band (the Sandwiches) that includes David Rhodes Brown on guitar, Maxwell Schauff on drums, and Rick "Pickle" Gerkin on keyboards, as well as some very talented friends, such as Bobby Keys on saxophone, Sam Bush on mandolin and fiddle, and Billy Bremner on vocals, Makin' a Living, Not a Killing starts with a smile that will remain on your face for the duration of the disc.
Several of the songs have already been culled for other projects, as Chet Atkins hand picked "Ode to Mel Bay" for his 1997 album The Day the Finger Pickers Took Over the World, and Dr. Demento featured "Dial 1-800 When I'm Gone" (hidden track) on one of his legendary radio shows.
All 13 songs on this self-produced disc, were penned by Supe, and are of a convivial nature that will not disappoint those who have seen his wacky shows, and witnessed his antics over the past several decades. "The title of the disc kind of sums up my relationship with the music business. I'm not filthy rich, but my phone's still turned on."
