Formed in 2004 as a musical project to couple each members' college education, Under This House is a group of Rock musicians who grew up in an independent Detroit Rock music scene. Hailing from Monroe, Michigan, Under This House has made a couple band member additions over the last four years while maintaining a solid 5 member line-up. Influenced by mid-to-late 90s independent artists like Sunny Day Real Estate, American Football, and The Promise Ring, Under This House continues to find inspiration from bands on the current mainstream front like Death Cab For Cutie and Band of Horses. Under This House pride themselves on the high-energy level of their live shows.

Their debut release (self-titled) was written over the course of 3 years while the majority of members were still in college. This collection of 13 songs wasn't written as a comprehensive storybook album but rather has come to be an illustration of musical growth over time, presented in collage format. The liner notes in the album are left to a minimum relying on the photography and art direction to tell the album's story. The blooming tree on the front cover in front of a red, white, and blue lit backdrop not only symbolizes the eminent and universal call for the U.S. to continue to "go green" (the pressing of the album was done on 100 recycled board), but also as a symbol for growth in the group, musically. The back cover's photography comes from a construction site, symbolizing the intended creation of structure. Finally, the inside cover ties the musical group's story together with trees surrounding a steel-beamed-supported structure symbolizing the coexistence of intentional structures and natural growth - which to the group, is what this record is. Under This House attempts to tell stories and convey messages, both aurally and visually, in every part of their art.
