Details:
âTransformationâ, the 2009 full-length compact disc release by John Orr Franklin was written, recorded and produced entirely in his personal recording studio in Austin, TX. With the making of âTransformationâ, John reached an incredible personal milestone in terms of his âdo-it-yourselfâ approach to the production and distribution of his own music. Not only was all of the material written, produced and engineered by John, but he is also running his own record label called Blue Room Digital that is distributing the project. âItâs a bit overwhelming at times, but as my own record label, I get to release music that stays true to my original vision.â
The music of John Orr Franklin has been described as straight ahead pop rock enamored with progressive rock arrangements. Many refer to this genre as âNeo-Progâ, but John prefers his music stay in the overall genre of Progressive Rock. âA lot of my heroes and musical influences are in the Progressive Rock genre, so it makes sense that my music would also fall into this realm. While the CD has a broad range of styles and influences, it really does have an overall Progressive Rock vibeâ. With comparisons and nods to Alan Parsons, Pink Floyd, John Lennon & Tom Petty; âTransformationâ truly captures and displays Johnâs diverse range of influences.
âTransformationâ offers a roster of hand-selected talents, each adding their individual flavors to the overall sound. Rob Palladino and Brandon Aly of Austin both performed on drums. Brandon also added percussion on several tracks, including âDisappear (Only One World)â where he replicated an entire Latin percussion section on his own. Palladino laid down grooves that kindle a spirited fusion of Levon Helm meets Stewart Copeland. Josh Batschelet of Austin performed upright bass on the track âSummerâ, while Kris Mathesen, from Memphis, played fretless and electric bass throughout most of the album. Laurel Hostak, from Philadelphia, added her voice to the title track on the CD giving it a truly angelic vibe. Gold and Platinum award winning mastering engineer Jerry Tubb, mastered the album at Terra Nova Studios in Austin. Jerryâs impressive skills added a new dimension of clarity to âTransformationâ.
John is currently preparing an all out media and promotional blitz that will help push âTransformationâ into Progressive Rock fan households worldwide. âThe new album, without a doubt, reflects my best work and Iâm proud to stand behind it. Iâm ready to perform and share these songs with anyone willing to lend me their ears.â
