Details:
The fun(d)short project is the brain-child of Milwaukee based singer-songwriter Brian Karolewicz. Karolewicz is described by Milwaukee area music critic Jim Hanke as âa heart-on-his-sleeve musician with a gut full of emotion and a mind full of musical smarts.â Karolewicz began his musical journey in the Milwaukee area by forming The Robinson Brown Radio Show with drummer Steve Brukbacher. In 1997 shortly after numerous club gigs and the release of the car album, Karolewicz recorded the first fun(d)short EP simply titled fun(d)short: volume one. Critically praised, the fun(d)short project worked the Milwaukee and Madison club scene and released another EP in 1999.
In 2005, while working in his home studio, The Shepard Sound Factory, Karolewicz recorded the largely acoustic based LP titled fun(d)short volume three: The World Needs Heroes. While mainly an acoustic LP, âHeroesâ does have its rock moments thanks to Heathrow drummer Don Kurth, who drums on two of the LPâs thirteen tracks. Melodic gems âItâs Only Sleepâ, âMeet the Explorersâ, âWake Up Paulâ, and âOnly in my Mindâ will bounce around in your head for days while subtle ballads âCome Aroundâ and âCornerstoneâ will have you dreaming of your favorite corner pub.
In 2007 Karolewicz, along with drummer Jim Doucette (The Referrals) and bassist Andrew Brown (Jonas Whale) began preparing to bring the fun(d)short project back to live audiences. In addition to playing live, the fun(d)short project released Volume 4: Count to Four late in 2008. Count to Four blends straight-forward Midwestern rock nâ roll on tracks âHabit Formingâ and âPost the Betsâ with acoustic numbers âDrive a Holeâ and âRaincoatâ to provide a healthy balance for your ears.
With two official LPâs and an EP under their belt, 2009 looks to be another busy year for the fun(d)short project. Recording sessions for Volume 5: Laughter for the Broken Hearted are set to begin in spring and the band as always will make selected appearances in the Milwaukee area.
