Details:
Don't miss a truly outstanding jazz experience through the closely knit musical interplay between Daniel Lantz Trio and flute virtuoso Staffan Hallgren, as they explore genre by genre with an ever-present playfulness and swinging determination.

Swedish flute player Staffan Hallgren, born 1939 in Stockholm, counts today as one of Sweden's most prominent jazz flautists. Hallgren has been part of the Swedish jazz scene ever since the fifties, when he performed with important Swedish jazz profiles such as Christer Boustedt, Eje Thelin and Bernt Rosengren. Today, he freelances as a soloist and cultivates his chamber jazz group Pan Trio.

Swedish pianist, composer and arranger Daniel Lantz, whose style of playing bears traits of the bluesy Wynton Kelly as well as the impressionistic Bill Evans, has for some ten years now performed professionally with a number of the top jazz musicians in Sweden, eg Lennart Åberg, Bosse Broberg, Karl-Martin Almqvist, Gus Dahlberg to name a few. Alongside his busy live performance schedule, he composes and arranges music for theatre, film and orchestra.

Lantz' trio - where he himself plays the piano, Mattias Åström plays the bass and Daniel Olsson plays the drums - saw the light of day late in 1999 and has since developed into one of the truly hard-swinging jazz trios in Sweden. In addition to the main jazz repertoire, mostly originals composed and arranged by Lantz, the trio crosses over occasionally to other genres such as funk, latin, blues, folk music, classical and even film music. The result is a distinctive sound of its own where vivid musical imagination and freedom of expression is combined with palatable adherence to roots and grooves.

Apart from performing on its own over the years, the trio has made many collaborations with other soloists, such as trumpet players, sax players and vocalists, both in the studio and on stage. This disc: Daniel Lantz Trio featuring Staffan Hallgren - "On The Tiles" is in fact an important document of one of those very successful collaborations; a one-time soloist and trio collaboration between Hallgren and Lantz back in 2004 that quickly grew into something much more permanent.

Amongst a handful of imaginative renditions of jazz standards, "On The Tiles" treats us to fresh originals by Lantz and Hallgren, plus daring excursions into boiling latin rhythms, calypso, 70's funk and even Swedish folk music. An hour-long musical buffet of 12 full-sounding tracks, this is an album with great variety that will leave no one disappointed!
