Singer, songwriter and instrumentalist Cyrus Gabrysch is a both an ally and a misfit in the recent swell of alternative folk music sweeping the UK. Born to American and Polish parents, he was raised in France, the USA and Scotland. After training as a classical pianist he worked for several years playing piano in New York City for the major Ballet and Modern dance companies, after which he moved to London to concentrate on songwriting.

The combination of his melodic, gravel-pitted vocals with the songwriting influences of Jacque Brel, John Martyn, Devendra Bernhardt, David Bowie, Ray Charles, Tom Waits, Howlinâ Wolf, and The Pogues - has created a truly idiosyncratic genre of its own, augmented by the ever increasing band of fiddlers, saxophonists, mandolinists and harmonica players who have joined in recent months.
