The CD "From Earth to Sky: Tia Chucha's Centro Cultural Presents a Collection of Word and Song" is a compilation of various spoken word and musical performers who have graced the performance space of Tia Chucha's Cafe & Centro Cultural in the Northeast San Fernando Valley section of Los Angeles.
Tia Chucha's Cafe Cultural is a bookstore, cafe, art gallery, performance space, and cyber cafe, founded in 2001 by Luis J. Rodriguez, his wife Trini, and their brother-in-law, Enrique Sanchez. It has received rave reviews in the Los Angeles Times, Latina Magazine, People Magazine (en espanol), the LA Daily News, and other pubications. It has also been featured on various radio and TV shows, including C-Span and "Realidades" of PBS-TV.

Tia Chucha's Centro Cultural--the not-for-profit sister organization to the bookstore/cafe--was founded in 2003, with a working/founding board consisting of Angelica Loa, Victor Mendoza, and Luis Rodriguez. The Centro links artists, musicians, writers, actors, and healers with the community through workshops in music, dance, literature, theater, rites of passage for young men and women, women's natural healing circles, Hip Hop music, radio, film, and more.
Tia Chucha's Centro Cultural also houses Tia Chucha Press--a poetry press founded by Luis Rodriguez in Chicago in 1989. TCP has published, by 2005, around 40 books and a CD, including the recent works of Angela Shannon and ariel robello. An anthology of Tia Chucha Press poets -- Dream of a Word -- came out in late 2005. All our books are distributed by Northwestern University Press: www.nupress.northwestern.edu.
In addition, the Centro houses Dos Manos Records, which produces CDs of spoken word and music collaborations, as well as Xispas Magazine, an online Chicano magazine with interviews, reviews, history, opinions, cartoons, artwork, poetry, fiction, and more. Go to www.xispas.com to find out more.
