Details:
T. Griffin is a songwriter and sonic adventurer living in New York City. LIGHT IN THE AISLES is his second long-player.

LIGHT IN THE AISLES features 11 songs laced with piano, walkman, violin and lurching samples. Hushed, intimate vocals wrapped in spaghetti guitars and off-kilter beats, all supporting 'a singer-songwriter in the ranks of Vic Chesnutt, Elliott Smith and Chris Knox.' (Seattle Weekly)

The cast of characters includes: mailboxes, empty movie theaters, cowboys in the city, surgical gloves, idaho, lip gloss, diet coke, sassy magazine, worn-out gods, double nickles on the dime.

"....a brilliant little diamond in the rough -- an intimate collection of occasionally witty, slightly warped and often sad reflections on relationships and pop culture, set to a gorgeously alluring slo-core minimalism -- often rendered with junk-store instruments. Think Vic Chesnutt meets Tom Waits in a series of New York apartments." (Critic's Pick, Minneapolis Star Tribune)

"...late night ruminations which radiate a sort of somber hope and dreaminess through Griffin's delicately added electronic flourishes." - (Critic's Pick, Time Out New York)

"The cuts are every bit as stripped-down, dusky and heartbreaking as those of 2000's Tortuga, but feature a sound that fills more than just that spooky private corner of your mind...Griffin loops his guitar and piano underneath arresting narratives of the life that lies just beneath the surface of what we consider 'normal.'" (Pulse of the Twin Cities)

***********************

Live, Griffin has been called 'the iron chef of singer-songwriters' (Minneapolis Star Tribune) for his ingenious use of a few simple materials: two walkmans, a sampler, a looper and a 1950 Gibson create the shifting rythmic backdrops that frame his haunted story-songs. Besides his solo recordings and live appearances, he has contributed music for theater and film, including soundtrack work and live collaborations with Jem Cohen (Fugazi: Instrument, Benjamin Smoke) and Ann Bogart's SITI company.

Light in the Aisles was recorded on a minidisc player and a powerbook in 6 cities and 11 different New York apartments. It was released July 17th, 2001.
