ROCK: Modern Rock, POP: with Electronic Production
Details:
Sometime in 2000, singer/songwriter Susan Cruickshank and guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Rob Mercier decided to combine their individual talents and see what happened...the result was the song "Dark"; a swirling hybrid of rock/pop melody, gritty guitar, and electronic ambience. Pleased with the results, they decided to continue their collaborations, and Thylacine was born.
The unique blend of styles and genres comes from Rob's love of guitar-rock and rap, and Susan's love of 80's new-wave and electronic music. Some influences that can be heard throughout Thylacine's work include Pink Floyd, Van Halen, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Joe Satriani, Annie Lennox, and Guns N Roses.
The group continue to play as a duo, with Susan singing and Rob playing guitar. Original backing tracks are supplied by a triggered Mac laptop, although the duo are always looking for a bass player, a DJ, or a keyboardist to compliment their live sound. Currrently, the band are working on new material, to be released sometime in 2005.
