Thereâs a common misconception that as an independent artist, you are inferior without the backing of a major label. Born and raised in saginaw,michigan, petey moe has always had an eye to the future while laying the foundation to climb the ladder of success. prattâ first love has always been art. But, when his artist dream did not materialize, he realized that he had to make money to become his own man. As is with most hoods Biggie described, either youâre slinging crack rock or got a wicked jump shot. petey moe began to hustle. However, instead of achieving his champagne wishes by squandering his money, he saved enough money to create AL P. RECORDS in 2000 to pursue his other love, singing and rapping.

Next, petey moe began to circulate his music by hitting DJs and strip clubs to make sure his music was heard in the streets. He garnered such a buzz that the talented andrea pratt mother of petey moe and , owner of al p. records, took notice. In 2002, petey moe became an official resident in the al p. records home and signed to the label. The partnership has been blazing lanes ever since under the petey moe's motto: âaint nuthin to it but to do it.

With the work heâs put in, his future is brighter than a diamond filled smile in the sunshine. He has dropped two albums on al p. records: going digiatal and welcome to the circus. The latter contains a high quality video of his latest single, âHEY GIRLâ.â
Theyâve already netted petey moe over 25,000 units sold independently! Keep in mind that these are sales due to word of mouth, not through video and radio promotions. His next album, going digital, is slated for a feb. release, while welcome 2da circus is due out on july 03. Fans anxious for the heralded my room album will have to wait until he achieves his goal of signing to a major.

There is a certain amount he feels he deserves. âMajor [labels] will respect your hustle and will give you more when they see you grinding. Choosers pay. If you choose, you have to pay. Itâs different if you approach them rather than be approached because they know that you have value and will make their money back.â But, until that day, âIâm trying to be the first indie artist on the cover of The Source. I want to be on 106 & Park as an indie. If I keep grinding and building a buzz, I know good things will happen. I donât need to be on a major to get all of that. I want to show that you can do this as an indie.â
