I am musician...not because I play an instrument, or because I sing songs, or I do concerts; I am a musician because God is creative. The first thing we learn about who God is: " in the beginning God CREATED." (Gen 1:1) So, God is creative, and that is the first thing he wants us to know about him. Wow! Later in the Scripture I learn that I am made in the image of God. This image isn't just an image comprised of ears, eyes, mouth, etc. but this image speaks of characteristics, passions, one's reasoning ability, one's sense of justice, and of course one's ability to create. I am a musician because God created me to create... he created me to make music. We all bear God's image, but I'm simply blessed to carry a very small musical portion of God's wonderful image.
I started playing music in the church as early as I can remember. I began my musical journey playing drums. Man o Man, did I play. I remember playing until my fingers bled on many different occasions. Later on, during my senior year in high school, I began to play acoustic guitar and sing. Singing never was my thing. There were always people who wanted to sing, and I was ok with letting them. However, by the time I got to college, I was asked to lead worship at different churches. I love to worship God in song. Despite my hesitance, I lead worship, and I really enjoyed singing and playing for Christ. I really feel blessed to be used by God in leading worship. I later traveled in a traditional gospel group, and that is where I picked up playing the bass. The whole "song-writing thing" was always there. I guess it was just a logical mix of my passion to tell stories and to play music. I was a worship pastor for 5 years at a small church plant in Greenville SC. Serving there was awesome. I continue to play with musicians, song writers, performers, and the like, and most of my musical inspiration is generated from innocent love songs to my wife, daily praises to Christ, and song-writing about random life experiences.
