"I have always strived to do and say what I believe and in the end relentlessly be myself" -Katie Trotta 2004

In her debut album, "release", Katie's spirit is clearly heard through her thought provoking words. This singer/songwriter wanted her first album to include only songs written during her high school years. Katie finished recording "release" in the fall of her senior year, two months after her eighteenth birthday.

Letting others hear your music was once described to Katie by a friend as like letting someone read your diary. The words to her songs share with others her feelings and dedication to be, as stated in the above quote, relentlessly herself. The title "release" was chosen to describe the process of letting go and setting free. Being a very private person, the thought of letting others hear her deeply personal lyrics was terrifying. It was the encouragement of friends and family that finally gave Katie enough courage to go into a studio and begin working on "release". Over the course of the six months that it took to finish "release", Katie came to terms with the idea of sharing her music with others. She realized that it was not only a step forward for her music, but it was also a step forward for herself as a person. With this album, Katie is 'releasing' four years of her life, her experiences, her emotions out into a world beyond the confines of her journals she filled with lyrics.

As the second to the youngest of five children, Katie's first exposure to music was through her oldest sister's piano playing. Katie began trying out the piano while watching her sister, and after about three years of begging, her wish to begin lessons was granted at the age of eight. She played an original composition at her first piano recital. The passion for creating music was born.

A piano teacher and mentor, Susan Kitterman, encouraged Katie to write lyrics to her compositions at the age of 14. She also encouraged her to become involved in a theatre company where she learned the art of improvisational piano. These two elements, along with the discoveries and metamorphosis that Katie experienced during her high school days, are the foundation of "release".

Katie's faith, family and friends are the center to her life. She is committed to be true to her faith and values as she continues in the exciting journey ahead. Always thankful, Katie knows that she is truly blessed to have the gift of music in her life.
