Cranky thrills. Sultry paranoia. Gothic burlesk and tall tales from San Francisco.

11 MP3 Songs
POP: Quirky, ROCK: Goth

Details:
"2 AM in the Tunnel of Love" is the second batch of cranky thrills from Jeff Wagner, a.k.a. the Tunnel of Love. (The eponymous, first EP was sold at performances of the 2002 play "Circus Proboscis", for which Wagner wrote 3 songs.)

"2 AM..."'s 3-minute tales alternate between spooky atmospherics and primal, skeletal rants, all laced with vibrating organs and guitars. The result is the kind of raw personality found in '40s film noir, '50s B-movies, '60s girl-groups, and '80s goth.

Wagner was the singer-bassist for Sharking Teeth and Jumpknuckle, bands who drew comparisons to the Stooges and "a swarm of bees", respectively.

PRESS:
"San Francisco's Tunnel of Love is one man, Jeff Wagner, who specializes in campy, theatrical music -- a mixture of goth, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, and evil carnival music, coated with a heavy gloss of B-movie fetishism...If you think 2 AM sounds like a one-dimensional outing, you're wrong; there's a surprising amount of detail and variety in these songs. "Midnight (at the Beach)", for example, is littered with trashy, dissonant no-wave guitar lines -- it wouldn't be out of place on a Skin Graft release. "Torch (Pt. II)" is a bizarre take on '60s girl-groups such as the Shirelles..."
- Garrett Splain, SPLENDID (WWW.SPENDIDZINE.COM)

"Buzzy metallic rock/pop combination of nightmarish 60s beach music and carnival sounds...Weeeeird, but inexplicably cool. "
- Mandy Khoshnevisan, KZSU ZOOKEEPER ONLINE (HTTP://ZOOKEEPER.STANFORD.EDU)

"This is eccentric, mysterious, soundtrack music for sleazy musicals shot on a shoestring budget...full of penetrating truths about stuff beneath the radar."
