Uncle Moondog is the brainchild of songwriter Mike McManus. As the chief songwriter of the rock band Egodog, Mike and the band released three critically acclaimed albums between 1997 and 2001. Egodog travels abroad each year performing for the U.S Department of Defense. Their tours have found them entertaining American soldiers stationed in such far away countries as Japan, Bosnia, Kosovo, and Hungary.
In 2003, Mike decided to fulfill the wishes of his friends with young children, to come up with a fun CD that both kids as well as their parents would enjoy. Dipping into the wildest corners of his imagination, he invented the concept of Uncle Moondog and all his friends. This enabled Mike to really stretch musically and write in new and exciting styles. The Uncle Moondog CD delves into pop, reggae, blues, 50's doo-wop, and country. Mike wrote, performed, and sang all the songs by himself, with his wife Joan contributing some of the weird noises! The result is a 10-song album of hilariously catchy tunes that both kids as well as their parents will enjoy listening to over and over again.
Mike is currently hard at work in Shaggy Road Studios recording the second Uncle Moondog album, Baloney Cake. It should be released some time in the fall of 2005, so stay tuned!
