Jute Gyte's sophomore release combines the dark ambient of his debut Apidya and the dense noise of his recent miniCD releases with IDM, spacey synth work, and treated ethnic percussion. Droning mechanical loops collide with mangled breakbeats, electric guitar, complex polyrhythms, eerie synthesizers, layered harsh noise outbursts, and monstrous roars before detouring into bizarre upbeat organ interludes and oppressive ambient soundscapes. A wild and varied 78+ minute epic.

"The sequel, âArakanâ, disrupts whatever continuity has been formed with 12 diverse tracks of hefty duration, maxing-out all 78 minutes of the disc. Itâs all-over the place in terms of IDM and other, lesser-technocratic movements: from the pole of MIDI dance track âSeiklusâ and DBA-style candy waltz âCribâ, to harsh-noise Muslimgauze âClawheadâ, one may find Ui in the mellow-glitches of âBurning in Snowâ, a routinized Coil in âNotriumâ, or the dark ambient of recent Burial Hex in âAceldamaâ. Several tracks including this last one verge upon double digits â in one track digesting the sonic weight of many othersâ entire mini-disc â and though the experience can be a harrowing in the sheer density of experiment, the format welcomes picking and choosing, making this a disc for subjective (and repeat) listening. The sharp colors and contrast really keep the tracks off the ground despite such expansive running times, and though Kalmbach here avoids with neutrality a commitment to one style, his abilities with noise, ambience, and melody succeed with more than a few highlights.
