BIOGRAPHY

The most noTORIous Singer and Songwriter to come out of Philadelphia is Tori bellaâ. Receiving a call at midnight by another Philly artist who got signed to a West Coast label, he asked her if she would come into the studio. He heard about her through a friend of a friend who introduced them. That friend told him about her dynamic writing skills, ability to come up with hooks, and freestyle an entire song just by hearing that track once, he was sold on her talent. Growing up, Tori bellaâs musical taste came from listening to and hearing allot of Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight. âThere was alotta music in my house while I was coming up. I thought everybody's home was like that, but that was definitely the norm at my house. When Chaka Kahn came out, I liked the power behind her voice. You felt it when she sang her songs. Then Sade came along, and I was like whoa. Her voice was smooth, her style was elegant and she commanded a stageâ. This West Philly native in her own right is no stranger to the mic or stage, and Tori bellaâ graced many stages. South Street Blues, Opening act for CeCe Peniston at the Trocedero, Million Artist March, The CW (Philly 57), cable TV show âIn Motionâ, TV commercials for Phillyâs Melrose Diner and HBO. In addition to the stage Tori bella' received airplay on the songs that she wrote and sang âDiggittâ, âHeated Grooveâ, âIf I Could Capture Timeâ and âListening To Rainâ on WUSL and WIOQ in Philadelphia, Lincoln University and WENN in Birmingham, AL. And if by chance you missed any of her live shows, it is something you can not afford to miss in the future. This phenomenal Singer and Songwriter financed and worked together with Tower Records (South Street) and Sound of Market to put out her first EP CD noTORIous Secrets which sold out in stores in Philadelphia. Tori bellaâ told me, âPhilly has been supportive of my music especially when it comes to my live shows. Everybody I know comes outâ. Tori bellaâ loves the entire process of putting an album together and says, âsometimes Iâm not inspired to write anything for a minute than all of a sudden Iâll write 20, 30 songs at one time, its crazy. Iâm usually sitting on an idea for awhile and think about how Iâm gonna put it all together on paper. I love to write things with a twist, in a way you havenât thought of before, ya knowâ. With her latest album TORIOT, Tori bellaâ tells me that TORIOT and noTORIous Secrets are like night and day, very different. âI worked with Cee Knowledge, Doodlebug from Digable Planets. Knowledge has crazy intros. Its almost like jumping rope. You wait your turn, then jump in with him. Now Kasar Tha Star, I met him through Knowledge. Star is very intense. His tracks have a creepy feel to them that sound like it should be in a scary movieâ. Tori bellaâ added, âI had to do all the tracks justice - my singing, lyrics, arranging and everything are on the line. When I went back into the lab to write the TORIOT album I was going through alotta @hit, but I believe that only the best songs come outta something like that. Well, first of all, if I donât believe it when Iâm putting the song together, and feel it when I sing it, the public ainât buying it ya know. Philly fans are tough on an artist. I'm from here, I know. I've seen it for myself. Philly don't play.
