Using plastic microphones found in stinky boxes, her trusty, dusty 4-track portastudio, and some old cassettes with tape over the corners, Veloura Caywood is undoubtedly lofi. Make no mistake, however, there is nothing middling about it. Rather, these twenty-three songs are the result of almost four years of writing, experimentation, and perfectionism. While her influences, particularly The Pandoras, Tammy Wynette and Doo Rag can be heard, Veloura's music is distinctly her own. Stylistically, her music is simple in the background while resembling a ball of twine in the foreground. There's some accapella singing and some layered. There's some clear sounds and some homemade surround-sound, pedal-less distortion. You can tell she doesn't take her music too seriously, but this is how she handles everyday life - spontaneous, painfully honest and smiling through her teeth. Veloura's voice stands out. At times, it can melt glass. Honest. Regardless of whether she's layered it on top of itself like in the song "Automolove", the ode to her die hard, favorite possession, the 1987 Jeep Cherokee named JP (seen on the CD itself), or fuzzed it up in 'Want (With a Capital W),' its beauty shines through. These recordings are not fancy nor are they trying to be your best friend. Veloura Caywood just wants you to ride along in her mind through four years of loneliness, passionate aggravation, love, lust, only-child discouraging perfectionism, year long anticipation, limitless devotion and fun, wild eyed trampolines that don't like anything dainty or mushy.
