ROCK: Acoustic, FOLK: Folk Blues

Details:
Singer/songwriter/guitarist Geoffrey Welchman's infectious blend of funky and bluesy acoustic music hearkens back to some of his first influences: the Beatles, Sly and the Family Stone, and Joan Armatrading. His first professional performance was at Greenwich Village's Folk City.

In rock bands and as a solo act he has performed at many New York City landmarks, including CBGBs, Café Siné, and the Village Vanguard, as well as throughout the SF Bay Area. Settling in Baltimore, he recorded his first solo album, "Comfort Noise," in 2001.

Now employing loops in his live performances (allowing him to harmonize with himself), his performances have brought comparisons to acoustic artists like Keller Williams and David Wilcox.

Music Monthly - 10/01
...it goes to show that even a music journalist can make good on sounds he covers. He has the way. ...his guitar and voice meld. It works and has the power to hit you deep. Do your mind a favor and pick up this record.

..interesting, thought-provoking, and well-written..."Comfort Noise" is relaxed, endearing, and completely no-frills...Among my favorites are "Freddie's Lament" (think Scooby-Doo) and "Pterodactyl" (a charming, child-like fairytale set to music)...watch for imaginative rhymes, great visual images, and an impressive use of wordplay. Overall the songs range from a non-traditional folk sound, through to the blues and more edgy rock-based tracks...this is good music.
