Southern Blues and R&B delivered soulfully by a powerful and emotive male vocalist.
10 MP3 Songs
BLUES: Blues Vocals, BLUES: Rhythm & Blues
Details:
A dynamic vocalist and entertainer from New Orleans, Willie West has been center stage in the Louisiana's R&B community for over 40 years. West keeps crowds dancing with classic songs from the 50's all the way up to his current original work, full of soul and heartfelt emotion. This album is is a sample of the deep talent West possesses and shares with his audiences.
Willie West's second CD is of the highest order. It would be foolish to compare these recordings to those of old, suffice it to day that the vocals are powerful and the arrangements soulful. The backing group is tight and effective, with tasty drumming and economical guitar. The ballads are really outstanding, especially the covers of Danny White's (West's old Frisco label mate) "Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye" and "Loan Me Your Handkerchief". The title track has a nice Tyrone Davis feel, reminiscent of "Turn Back The Hands Of Time". "Get Yo' Hand Outta My Pocket" and "Night Shift" finds West in a blues bag which suits him fine. West even does a whistle instrumental to close out the set. The music says it all.
Jeff Hannusch, OFFBEAT
Some smooth and soulful blues with an R&B twist from this veteran New Orleans vocalist.
