This CD is a collection of tunes I recorded with a number of talented people in Los Angeles, Atlanta and Asheville, North Carolina. Although I shared many common interests with these musicians, sometimes our tastes and styles varied. For example; when I met one fellow at his studio at Venice Beach, CA, he had purple hair, earrings and wild clothes. Now there I was, a country boy from the mountains of North Carolina, but we talked music and decided to record a song. We ended up recording more tunes, three of which are on this CD. As with this artist and some of the other people I worked with, many times our varied musical styles meshed creating interesting sounds and arrangements that might not have taken place had it not been for our differences. I guess bringing our differences together in harmony is something we need to do a lot more of here on ole planet earth!
I want to thank the Creator of this universe for the gift of writing songs. It is a marvelous experience I truly enjoy.
I next want to thank and DEDICATE this project to my best friend, partner, companion, lover and wife!! Without her, I, nor my music would have ever gotten to this point. Many people who have met my wife will tell you she is truly a special person. I am here to tell you she is more special than anyone can imagine! I am truly âMUSCLE-BOUNDâ with her love!!
NOTE: I wrote the song 10,000 Mile Blues while in Korea at the end of the Vietnam War, this was about 1972. I was far from home thinking about my dad telling me when I was younger âyou donât know what itâs like when youâre 10,000 miles from homeâ - he was a Merchant Marine during World War II. However, the song didnât seem to fit the Vietnam War, thereâs a line that says âdrinking oil instead of teaâ, but I left the line and put the song aside. Later, when Iraq invaded Kuwait, and they had what was called the Persian Gulf War, the song seemed to fit what was happening then. So, I recorded the tune with a fellow named Mark Perron in Los Angeles, this was about 1986. I then mailed out cassette copies and was fortunate to gain airplay from some stations across the US and to have the Armed Forces Network broadcast it to 300 stations worldwide. Iâm glad to now have this tune on a CD. Maybe it will mean something to others who find themselves far from home, many times risking their lives for our freedom.
