Angela Ai was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. Her passion for the performing arts began at the age of 5 when she began studying ballet. She studied classical piano at the age of 7 following with brief studies on the violin and flute. While in high school, she began auditioning for and was chosen to be the lead in many of the school musicals and plays.

After graduating from The University of Pennsylvania (Wharton) with a degree in Finance, she moved to New York City to pursue a career in investment banking always with the hope of eventually pursuing music. "The problem is when I began calling in sick to work, I actually started getting sick!" Angela laughs. She then decided to apply to The Manhattan School of Music where she was accepted and began studying Jazz Vocal Performance. She assumed that with her classical background, a jazz education would allow her to become fluent in any kind of style of music that she chose to write.

That has proven to be true. In January 2002, she released her second CD entitled "History" which features her playing and singing her original material. Angela says in her liner notes, "I decided it was time to record my songs - mainly to get them down on tape so I could listen to them and figure out how I wanted them produced. When we were done, I liked it - so much so that I wanted you to hear them like this - pre-huge-blowout production. You may hear little bleeps and blurps here and there but you are also hearing the sound of letting go. . . "

Angela was selected as The Songwriters' Hall of Fame Abe Olman Scholarship recipient for "Excellence in Songwriting" which was featured in Billboard Magazine. She has been a Featured Artist for the SHOF and was selected to perform in several of their Songwriter Showcases.

Angela has also performed twice in the BMI Bitter End Songwriters' Circle, has had feature vocals in films and TV and was a featured guest on WBAI 99.5FM. She has worked with several successful writers/producers including Jeff Franzel (Shawn Colvin, 'N Sync, Taylor Dayne, Robyn); Lorraine Ferro (Dove Award); Michael Colina (David Sanborn, George Benson, Patty Austin); and Mark Godwin (Janice Robinson).

Angela has performed in some of New York's most renowned musical proving grounds including Carnegie Hall, The Bottom Line, Mercury Lounge, The Cutting Room, The Bitter End and Makor. She continues to grow her fan base outside of New York City playing internationally in places like Vancouver, British Columbia and Taipei, Taiwan.

As an actor, Angela was last seen on Broadway as Christmas Eve in the Tony-award winning musical, âAvenue Qâ. She then went on to perform the role in Las Vegas at the Wynn Hotel. Angela was featured in the 3rd season finale of the hit TV series, "Sex and the City" and in several national commercials, including Ikea and American Express.
