Details:
Dangerously Hot is an alternative/punk rock band formed in January 2007 by five guys who were then all students at Dayton's Holy Angels School. The group consists of lead/rhythm guitarist and songwriter James Hill (15), a sophomore at Carroll High School; bassist Kevin Ross (15), a sophomore at Brookville High School; rhythm guitar Josh Marshall (16), a sophomore at C-J; lead guitarist/lead vocals and songwriter Jack Cox (16), also a sophomore at Chaminade-Julienne; and drummer Thomas Cox (13), an eighth grader at Holy Angels. Hill resides in Fairborn, Ross in Perry Township, Marshall in Dayton and the Coxes in Kettering.
Dayton Daily News Rock Insider Don Thrasher observed: "Many teenage musicians are content to practice away in their basements, learning covers and taking their first stabs at writing a few original songs. That's certainly not the story with Dangerously Hot... The group, which formed in January 2007, gave a strong showing in this summers Dayton Band Playoffs at Canal Street Tavern and drew some of the largest crowds of the entire competition..."
During its early formative stage, DH worked off-and-on with the Dabico Artist Factory, a band formation venture hosted at Dayton Band Company in Clayton, Ohio under the direction of John Derrickson and Al Talib. Dangerously Hot counts among its many and varied influences Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin, Queens of the Stone Age, Nirvana, Green Day, Queen, and Black Sabbath.
Dangerously Hot mostly plays original music with the occasional re-interpretation of their favorite covers. The group's first recording session in March 2008 (absent Hill and Marshall) resulted in a four-song EP of all originals, including "I Hope You're Happy", "Our Creed" and "Don't Leave Me Alone".
DH recorded its first full length, all originals album at Cyberteknics Studio in Dayton back in September 2008, featuring tracks such as "Stay Away", "Change", and "Pledge." The record, entitled "Change", was released first at a CD launch show at Canal Street Tavern in Dayton on Thanksgiving Weekend 2008.
Since their inaugural set at the 2007 Cage Classic in Kettering, Dangerously Hot has performed at several Dayton area stages including Stubbie's in Vandalia, as well as McGuffey's and the Oregon Express in Dayton. Other gigs have included both of the Urban Nights Events of 2008, the 2008 Mayor's Teen Talent Showcase, and a show at the 2008 Springboro Teen Rock Festival.
In the summer of 2008, DH competed in the Dayton Band Playoffs at Canal Street Tavern, making it to the third round and coming up short to the eventual winners. Since then, they have returned to Canal Street a number of times.
Dangerously Hot is currently touring around Southwestern Ohio promoting their album, "Change", as well as new material including "Spare Me", "Know My Face", and "Orange Soda".
