Glam/Glitter Rock
2 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Glam, ROCK: Punk
Details:
Born and raised in Hollywood, Chelsea grew up listening to everything from Frank Sinatra to Marc Bolan.
And soon enough, she was sucked into the tempting world of rock n' roll. But Chelsea Doll didn't just listen to musicians...they were over her dad's house everyday. By the age of twelve, she was writing songs of her own. At fourteen, she decided she was serious about her music and started recording. With Tommy Triant, a former member of Soul Kid #1, as her guitarist and Sean Fodor on lead; they recorded Chelsea Doll's first single.
"Va Va Va Voom" was originally written and performed by Brett Smiley in 1973. Brett, being a good friend of Chelsea's father, was delighted to have his song covered. Brett's album, Breathlessly Brett, was produced by Andrew Loog Oldham in '74 but wasn't released until 2003.
Chelsea's version of "Va Va Va Voom" became an instant favorite for KROQ dj, Rodney Bingenheimer in Los Angeles and WBAI dj, Delphine Blue in New York. London, England also took a liking to Chelsea Doll's sound and started playing her in Glam-ou-rama and other glitter rock clubs.
