Rootsy, bluesy American rock and roll
12 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Roots Rock, ROCK: Folk Rock
Details:
"Booting R&B rhythms, innocent harmonies, sturdy melodic hooks and stinging guitar lines that color and animate. The songs are as sharp as the band's pop-rock instincts." - Mike Joyce, The Washington Post
Great songs and very strong, rockin' performances. We set-up in the big room at the Krogh Roadhouse and Studio in Kennsington, Maryland and jammed for three straight days. We cut everything live, including vocals, resisting the temptation to re-record parts except in a few mind-numbing passages. Most of the album, with the exception of the more heavily produced pop song, "Why Can't I Write Sara," is real raw and rough-hewn.
Cravin' Dogs began as a "gonzo-folk" trio in 1986. Founding members Caldwell Gray (guitar/vocals), Lisa Venable Gray (vocals) and Tom Helf (drums) crafted a sparse brand of rock and roll that used acoustic guitar, drums and harmony-driven vocals to create a unique blend of folk, rock, '80s new wave and bluegrass. Since then Cravin' Dogs has evolved into an all-original, eclectic, rootsy, rock/pop-outfit that has played over 1000 shows and released seven full-length albums, one EP and two compilation retrospectives.
