Davey Culhane is from California, and has an expressive, improvisational, free flowing style of play. "White Lightning" is a collection of drum solo recordings over a period of months. These are acoustic drums recorded with microphones - no MIDI, no samplers. Variations in the overall sound between tracks is due to different recording setups over time. There is generally an underlying "groove" punctuated with hot rhythmic flashes. These recordings are not heavily compressed to maintain more of the live dynamic range. This CD takes advantage of a high quality, full range stereo system with strong bass response. Considerable effort was focused on preserving the live drum sound. If you like drums, you should find some tracks to like on "White Lightning".
