"A collection of jazz tunes reflecting Mr. Dilley's varied influences: Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, and mainstream jazz....a deeply passionate and personal work....He deftly translates all the colors, sounds, and feelings associated with his life experiences into music....His rich bass is the stuff of heartbeats, ocean waves, and other natural earth rhythms."--Hannah Castellaw, WOMANSPACE

"His jazz runs the gamut from deep and serious to playful....Dilley fuses a variety of influences--be-bop, R&B, Latin, and more--for a sound that's varied without been homogenized, challenging without being inaccessible."--Jim Beal Jr., SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS

When his school band director began calling him to sub on the director's dance band gigs, Joël Dilley began his career as a professional musician: at age twelve. A multi-instrumentalist, he eventually found his soul's expression in the bass; and four years later, he was touring the country with nationally-known groups. From his home base in San Antonio, he has participated in jazz education programs with the Carver Jazz Ensemble; served as staff bassist for the Southwest Guitar Conservatory; and recorded and performed in concert with legendary artists such as Arturo Sandoval, Herb Ellis, Gilberto Puente, Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson, Willie Nelson, Ryan Kaiser, Gil Goldstein, and the San Antonio Symphony. His recording credits include jingles for Norelco, Burger King, Budweiser, Hardee's, Miller Light, and Lone Star; and albums with various artists on the Columbia and Capitol labels. Dilley owns Mandala Music Production, a project recording studio in the picturesque King William arts district in San Antonio, where he is in demand as an instrumentalist, teacher, producer, and arranger.
