experimental electronic frighteningly gorgeous music

7 MP3 Songs
ELECTRONIC: Experimental, ELECTRONIC: Soundscapes

Details:
We are an experimental, cutting-edge improvisational duo, consisting of Aaron Krister Johnson on synthesizer, and Andy Hasenpflug on percussion.
Our music is a collection of pitched sounds, noises, and vocalizations. Sometimes it's steady and repetitious and danceable and fun. Other times it sounds like an alien cosmic transmission that Earthlings weren't supposed to hear. There is an element of primitive ritual and spookiness at times. Our music can be labelled 'surreal'. We like using tuning systems other than 12-tone equal standard tuning. Our influences might be: Morton Subotnick, Tod Dockstader, Iannis Xenakis, Steve Reich, Indian and African music, Gregorian Chant, Olivier Messiaen, and Toru Takemitsu. We use DJ like techniques, but employ them for a different aesthetic.

Divide by Pi was chosen to be the unsigned artist of the month for June 2004 by Keyboard magazine. They called our music "challenging and creative", and said that our "accessible brand of improvisational noise music or sound sculpture echoes Louis and Bebe Barron, Morton Subotnick, and Iannis Xenakis...Even at its most adventurous, there's a light, gossamer feel to the synth sounds that avoids the grating sound common to much noise music.
