Neil Gelvin and Fiddlin' Pete have been playing music together for over 25 years, forging a unique sound and ability to create spontaneous music. From the plains of North Dakota to the high deserts of California, the music and the songs capture the spirit of American folk.

Folk Songs and Fiddle Tunes was recorded live , direct to stereo, ( no multi-tracking), on a Sony Hi-Fi VHS VCR at Pete's house - February 6th thru the 12th, 1990.

The original cassette tape was limited both in playing time and audio quality.

This CDR more closely duplicates the excellent sound of the original master
and allows more space to include Jazzy Jam & Something Cajun, (not heard on the original cassette), and the complete recordings of Chicken Real,(more than 12 minutes of live improvisation on the fiddle tune Chicken Reel), and Bonaparte's Retreat.

Our special thanks to Rosanne Beach for her vocals on Careless Love and My Love is a Rider, Carolyn Tiernan & John Wehausen for their recorder duet on The Girl I left Behind, and Jay & Susie Bugarin for their energetic performance on The Hound Dawg Song.

This album is dedicated to all the folks throughout history that have kept these great folk songs alive and destined them to become a part of our American Heritage.
