Details:
Being born in Beaumont, Texas, the town that launched such superstars as Tracy Byrd, Mark Chesnutt and not to mention, George Jones, has definitely given Jason a love and a feel for country music. He was raised in the neighboring town of Silsbee just a few miles away in the piney woods of Southeast Texas where he developed an appreciation for music at an early age. "As far back as I can remember there was music in our house. The first music I remember hearing is Elvis on my dad's old 45's. We listened to those records hundreds of times."
Moving to the songwriter's paradise, Austin, shortly after high school, Jason began playing guitar and writing songs. It wasn't long before he was singing in the bars and clubs all over Texas. "One of my favorite places to play has been Poodie's out in Spicewood. You never know who's gonna walk through the door and sit in with the band." Poodie's has given stage to performers such as Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Jerry Jeff Walker and countless others over the years.
After graduating from Southwest Texas State University and working and playing in Austin for a couple of years, Jason decided to make the move to Nashville to chase his dream of being a professional singer/songwriter. "I'd have to say Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson have had the biggest influence on my writing. In my opinion, they're two of the greatest poet singer-songwriters of all time. They've always had a good story to tell."
2005 has found Jason back in Austin, back to his roots and writing and playing good country music more than ever. "I love Nashville, but there's just something about the freedom and energy on the Texas music scene."
He's Just a Songwriter is the follow-up release to his self-titled album from 2003. This CD is a collection of 10 new songs which were all written by JC. Largely introspective, it offers insight to much of the songwriter's life and experiences. It also features studio work from some tremendous musicians such as Britt Godwin and Bubba Moore along with some other monster players.
