Carol of Harvest

Named after the novel of the same title written by Walt Whitman in the year 1867 the band Carol of Harvest was formed in 1976.
Carol of Harvest were :
Beate Krause on vocals, Jürgen Kolb on keyboards, Heinz Reinschlüssel on Bass, Robert Högn on Drums and finally Axel Schmierer, the head and composer on guitars.
We released our first album in 1978 and until now it is very successful.
Influenced by groops like Camel, Pink Floyd and Genesis we found our own style.
There are about 13000 entrys in the internet and our group was praised as the âthe best prog-folk band everâ.

âReunion of Carol of Harvestâ ?

No â there will be no reunion of the former band âCarol of Harvestâ
The members are living in different parts of germany and some have their own musical projects.
Nevertheless there is a new CD from âCarol of Harvestâ after 30 Years.

My name is Axel Schmierer, and 30 years ago I composed the songs and wrote the lyrics for Carol of Harvest.
I never stopped playing music, it is a very important part in my life.
Music allows me to express feelings, thoughts, wishes, dreams and longings â at last to express myselfe in this wonderful world.

A year ago I was lucky to meet a woman, who is singing like a lark (comment of my good friend Rainer).
The larks name is Ewa, she is coming from polen and since autumn 2007, we are living together in Cadolzburg, near Fürth.
Cause I dont beleave in chances, this connection encouraged me to bring my music to public attention again.

In the meantime about 300 songs, little jewels are sleeping on my Mac G5, waiting to find the way into your hearts.

No â there will be no reunion, but music fron the creative head of Carol of Harvest.
All the time a lot of people asked me, why I did not publish my music.
Now it happens!

Of course a lot of things have changed, there is a polish female singer, but
sometimes when I listen to the old record from 1978 and I compare it with the music I am playing now â there is not so much difference.

Still minor chords dominate, still the songs are often melancholic, they are flooting, flying through the different rooms of my consciousness.
Still I write words dealing with life, feelings, but also with spiritual questions â the search for the real beeing, the search for the light:

âSoon the draggon will flyâ â the draggon (Kundalini) of life will arise in us and in the end it will bring us to ourselve.

We are all on the way to ourselve â and we will find the light â some of us soon â others later.
Life is loving us and sometimes I am overwhelmed of all the beauty inside of us and inside of this world.

âWorld musicâ friends named our music and we are proud of this judgement.

Ewa has a wonderful voice and she is singing in her native language â polish.
Polish is a very poetic and expressive sounding language.
For a long time we were thinking of singing our pieces also in englisch â but in the end we deceided not to do.

What kind of music do we play?

It is not so easy to give an answer. Our songs are rather different â some are very quiet and jilly, played unplugged with acoustic instruments, some are groovy, played with a whole band. There are elements of folk, rock and of world music. I prefere the terms : prog-folk and world music.
Yes, we are playing world music. A girl from poland and a german guy.
We have translated the lyrics, mostly written by Ewa, into german (on our internet site) and englisch â so everybody can understand.
I do not understand polish â but I was surprised how much a language can transport feelings.

The band

Voices, lyrics: Ewa Grams

Ewa was born 1972 in poland.
She was singing already in a schoolchoir and in a chanti â ensemble.
Singing was always her passion.

She was 21 when she did marry and when she came to germany.
The first years were very hard, cause she could not speak or understand the german language.

And though she did not sing for a too long time, music was always with her and inside she knew, that one day somebody would come into her life, who beleaves in her and in her voice â thats me.

I was born in Stuttgart and I started to play guitar at the age of 15.
My profession is Dipl.Soz.Päd.(FH) and non-medical practitioner.
The last few years I also absolved a training in rebirthing.
In autumn 2008 I will open my own praxis in Cadolzburg â Yeah!

Music ist the only constant thing in my life â the red thread running with me through all this years.
It does not matter how I feel â it carries and enriches me.
âMusic ist the axe for the frozen sea inside of usâ.

John was mixing rockgroups for over 20 years and he did a great job.
He really knows a lot about music.
John mixed our songs and also brought good ideas into our music.
