The Cornell Chordials, founded in 1997, are Cornell Universityâs premier co-ed a cappella group. They cover a variety of pop/rock artists, including Kelly Clarkson, Snow Patrol, The Used, and Imogen Heap. Known for their intensity and unique, edgy style, the Chordials in the past few years have made a splash on the national a cappella scene. Their 2007 album Arrival won two Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards for Best Mixed Collegiate Album and Best Mixed Collegiate Arrangement, as well as runner-up for Best Mixed Collegiate Solo. âSimply put,â said Elie Landau of RARB.org (Recorded A Cappella Review Board), âin the co-ed category, this is unquestionably the best CD I've heard so far this year.â

The Chordialsâ latest album, Smash, released in 2008, is starting to make an impact as well. Two of its tracks, The City is at War and The Moment I Said It, were chosen for Best of College A Cappella 2009 and Sing V:Groovus, respectively. These compilation albums feature a sampling of the best collegiate and professional groups in the world. Smash has also been nominated in every category it is eligible for in the Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards: Best Mixed Collegiate Album, Solo, Arrangement, and Song. âSmash is ready for the massesâ, says Joseph Bates of RARB.org, âand I am sure many vocal music mavens will want to grab it, especially after all the awards it is going to win.â

When they are not working on award-winning albums, the Chordials enjoy performing live on Cornellâs campus and at local events. They also travel around to perform at high schools and other universities, where they are always met with enthusiasm.
