Anne Martindale Williams has enjoyed a successful career as Principal Cellist of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra since 1979. Throughout her tenure with the Orchestra, she has often been featured as soloist both in Pittsburgh and on tour in New York at Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall. She has also collaborated with guest artists such as Yehudi Menuhin, André Previn, Lynn Harrell and Pinchas Zukerman in numerous chamber music performances. Her solo in The Swan on the Pittsburgh Symphonyâs recording of Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saëns was described by Grammophon critic Edward Greenfield as ââ¦the most memorable performance of all.â
Mrs. Williams divides her time between the orchestra, teaching at Carnegie Mellon and Duquesne universities, and solo and chamber music performances in America, Europe and the Far East. Mrs. Williams has appeared in several nationally televised productions including âConcertos,â produced by the BBC and âPrevin and the Pittsburgh,â produced by WQED. She also is a member of the Carnegie-Mellon Trio, which performs throughout the United States.
Anne Martindale Williams has given master classes at many universities and festivals throughout the country, including SUNY at Stony Brook, Manhattan School of Music, the National Orchestral Institute, Aspen and the Masterworks festivals. She also enjoys performing at many of Americaâs prestigious summer music festivals including Aspen, Caramoor, Skaneateles, Maui, Rockport, Grand Teton, Strings in the Mountains, and Mainly Mozart in San Diego.
Anne Martindale Williams has performed as soloist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in Schumannâs Concerto in A minor, Tippettâs Triple Concerto, Previnâs Reflections, Bachâs Brandenburg Concertos Nos. 3 and 6, Straussâs Don Quixote, Blochâs Schelomo, Dvorákâs Cello Concerto, Dutilleuxâs Tout un monde lointain, Saint-Saënsâ Concerto No. 1 and Brahmsâ Double Concerto, as well as Elgarâs Introduction and Allegro for String Quartet. In recent seasons she was featured in Elgarâs Cello Concerto, Haydnâs Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Cello, Oboe, Bassoon and Orchestra, and Waltonâs Cello Concerto.
Mrs. Williams is a graduate of The Curtis Institute of Music where she studied with Orlando Cole. Her Tecchler cello was made in Rome in 1701. Her husband, Joe, is the Director of Student Ministries at Beverly Heights Church. They reside in Pittsburgh with their daughter, Claire.

Paul S. Jones has been Organist and Music Director of Tenth Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia since 1998. His musical studies began at the age of five in the Toronto Conservatory program. He holds graduate degrees in piano and conducting from Indiana University School of Music where, as a doctoral fellow, he studied with esteemed pianist and pedagogue, Menahem Pressler, and was recipient of an Arts Grant in conducting from The Canada Council.
As a pianist, Dr. Jones has also collaborated with violinist David Kim, duo piano partner Samuel Hsu, and Metropolitan Opera stars Jerome Hines, Sharon Sweet, and Stuart Neill, as well as other artists of renown. He is author of "Singing and Making Music" (P&R Pub. Co., 2006), and is a regular church conference speaker and clinician. Dr. Jones is president of Paul Jones Music, Inc., a corporation of composers who write new music for the 21st century church (www.pjonesmusic.us), many of whom are represented on this disc. Jones has composed or arranged more than 200 sacred works including "Hymns for a Modern Reformation" with the late James Montgomery Boice.
