Erika Werry Time on our Hands (2006), Nothing Clearer Comes (2004)

2009 is an exciting year for Erika Werry; her quirky lyrics and scintillating voice are attracting attention as she joins with a number of local Toronto musicians, onstage and in studio. As a member of John Tielliâs Metal Kites and Christine Duncanâs Element Choir, Erika is singing to larger audiences and attracting new fans to her music, which she continues to hone in frequent performances. Any night of the week she may be accompanied by cello, banjo, horns, piano, violin or Theremin performed by such talented players as Justin Haynes, Tom Howell, Bryden Baird or Christine Bougie to name a few. In October the Erika Werry Acoustic Ensemble will be aired on CTVâs A channel, in performance on Club Showcase, filmed live at the Gibson Guitar Showroom. Her debut and sophomore discs continue to receive airplay on CBC and college radio, while Erika works steadily on her 3rd and 4th full-length releases.

Born in Toronto, Erika Werry finds inspiration from travels abroad, has studied French and English literature and Dance in Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal. Her two albums to date are almost opposite to each other in feel; her third release will blend the roots-rock vibe of Nothing Clearer Comes (2004) with the natural organic acoustic quality of Time on our Hands (2006). Erika continues to tour downtown Toronto on a regular basis, with yearly road trips to Atlantic and western Canada. She has traveled twice to Melbourne, Australia where her lyricism stood out as original and uniquely âCanadianâ.

A highlight this spring was supporting legendary Richie Havens at Hughâs Room in Toronto, where Erika played a solo set to a full house. She performed at the Brampton Indie Folk festival as a member of the Element Choir, with which she has also performed in Toronto at St Paulâs Cathedral and in the sanctuary of The Music Gallery, two of the cityâs most beautiful venues. Summer of 2007 saw Erika onstage as a member of John Tielliâs Metal Kites at Julie Doiron-touted Sappyfest in Sackville, NB. This summer, not only was Tielliâs band invited back to perform, but Erika Werry was also hired to play a set of her own music at the festival (www.sappyrecords.com). Other gig highlights of the year included Christmastime benefit shows with notorious players including Justin Rutledge and local legend Bob Snider, who invited Erika to play a few shows with him for his devoted and appreciative crowd. Erika has played at Toronto City Roots shows at the Cameron House, and for the second year was invited by one of her idols, the beauteous Mary Margaret OâHara to perform at the âMartian Awareness Ballâ on St Patrickâs day. Magali Meagher has invited Erika to perform in her band, The Phonemes, and Tim Vesely of Rheostaticsâ fame gave Erika Werry the honour of opening at his Violet Archers CD release concerts in Toronto and Waterloo.

Of her debut, Nothing Clearer Comes:
âSome singers have the ability to reach your soul with only one sung syllable, and for that instant you swear you understand all of their hopes and fears while your own become increasingly clear for what feels like the first time [â¦] beautifully morose trumpet flourishes and world-weary lyrics leave no doubt that Werry is a pretty deep gal with a wisdom of relationship matters...â NNNN NOW Magazine, August 18 2005

âErika Werry has made one of the yearâs best records â that voice! Those songs! That band!â Kevin Quain

Of Time on our Hands: âI dig Erikaâs grainy alto, her in-and-out-of-perspective songs, delivered with expression. An observant poet, a cliché distorter, a fearless traveler, a band leader â Miss Werry is all of the above, and a competent guitar strummer to boot...â Mary Beth Carty, Penguin Eggs Summer 2007 no. 34

âTime on our Hands [..] is consistently impressive [..] quite lovelyâ Toronto's EYE Weekly, Nov 16 2006
âErika Werryâs songwriting, performance and personality mesh perfectly, both live and on CDâ CIUT Radio director, Ron Burd
