SMOKEY RIVER BOYS
Nashville . New York . Hollywood

The legendary Smokey River Boys, on MCA Universal for three generations have been elected to the âLegends Hall Of Fameâ in Branson, Missouri this week as announced by Hall Of Fame curators in Branson. The legendary group celebrated their 40th anniversary on the label in the year 2003. The current album out by the Smokey River Boys on MCA Universal and sponsored by Wal-Mart Stores everywhere is entitled âO Brother.â It is the # 17 album in the Bluegrass Billboard charts this week and the # 1 Bluegrass album in the Euro-bluegrass charts in Europe this week worldwide.

The single from the album, âO Brotherâ has been steadily gaining airplay throughout the United States since its endorsement by George Clooney who starred in the O Brother Where Art Thou movie. Written by Sr. Vice-President of Universal Special Products Division, Bob Zipkin and his co-writers Kimberly Ann Cook and Robert Metzgar, the single record has been endorsed by Hairl Hensley at the home of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and Ken Berryhill who is a DJ at the Vanderbilt University Rock station in Nashville as one of the most played single records in all formats of radio in Nashville. The song is published by the Walt Disney Music Group in Hollywood.

No one seems to understand what has made the âO Brotherâ movement so popular, but to date over 12.5 million pieces of âO Brotherâ product has been sold by music retailers in the United States and the soundtrack has topped the Billboard charts at #1 for over two years in the Bluegrass section. In addition the song, âMan Of Constant Sorrowâ which is out by the Smokey River Boys as one of the Top-20 bluegrass releases of all times, has become a bluegrass cult favorite with college kids in California who call themselves the âblueheads of bluegrass.â The Smokey River Boys version is out on a special Handleman Bluegrass album entitled, â20 Greatest Hits of Bluegrassâ in stores December 11th 2005.

The Smokey River Boys are played in every radio format in Nashville on gospel stations, country stations, adult contemporary stations and rock stations which has never before happened for any bluegrass group on the label according to the radio promotions director who promotes the Smokey River Boys on radio for MCA Universal nationally. The boys are so famous now that they recently signed autographs at one of the special Navy Intel military bases where they signed from 10 a.m. in the morning till 3:30 a.m. the next morning, signing autographs for over 2000 military families and their children. The Smokey River Boys are proud sponsors of the Grand Ole Opry warm up show every Friday night from 7:00 p.m. till 7:30 p.m. âliveâ from the Grand Ole Opry on WSM 650 AM Radio with host Hairl Hensley. Members of the current group include Robert Metzgar (lead singer from Texas) Stephen Hill (tenor) Woody Wright (baritone) and Doug Clements (bass singer). The band has 9 members including the brother of Alison Krauss, Viktor Krauss.
