Written and performed by Thomas Fagan, "Smile About The Past" pays homage to his many influences, yet sets itself apart with a unique sound that stands on it's own.
Fagan says: "I've been influenced by a lot of different artists. Among them, Dylan, The Beatles, The Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews, Sarah McLachlan, Cat Stevens, Andy Williams, Chris Isaak, U2, Stevie Wonder, Aerosmith, John Hartford, Lindsey Buckingham, Smashing Pumpkins, Live, Eric Clapton, Bobby Darin, Elliot Smith, Elvis, Elvis Costello, Paul Simon, and many more. I can't say I copy anyone, mainly because I am not a good enough musician to master copying someone. Also, it irks me when I listen to the radio and hear bands trying to emulate the latest, greatest band."
He recently entered the 2001 Billboard Song Contest, and came away with 2 honorable mentions in the Pop ("Beyond Beautiful") and Contemporary Christian ("Kneel") categories. 2 other songs, "Just Let Go" and "Corporate Games", also received high marks in the country and rock categories.
Thomas plays a Tacoma acoustic-electric guitar, and an antique set of Ludwig drums, and does the lead and background vocals. He records from his home in Trussville, Al. on a Yamaha MD4. You can listen to the first 2 minutes of all the songs for free.
